"Innovative Animal Health" aims to improve capacities in animal health, and consequently human well-being, through the development of innovative tools to better detect and control health problems at the human-animal-environment interfaces.
The project will pursue the following strategies:
Develop innovative research to maximize biodiversity and health co-benefits;
Develop participatory pilot socio-eco-epidemiological surveys in the field, capitalizing on the experience of successful past and ongoing projects, and develop new tools to better anticipate and control emerging health threats in Thailand and the region;
Develop new tools in screening and surveillance systems, involving participatory involvement (community science and local experts);
Develop research on traditional veterinary knowledge and create new innovative animal medicine (respecting the Nagoya Protocol);
Develop an interdisciplinary, participatory and multi-stakeholder approach to One Health, in order to create a common framework to analyze health threats at the animal, human and environmental interfaces for better communication and intersectoral collaboration;
Improve and develop innovative science in order to contribute to the innovation plan (Thailand 4.0) and the international scientific ranking.
A project of Innovative Animal Health
SEAdogSEA, a project led by CIRAD ASTRE, is a multi-disciplinary project associating ecology, epidemiology and social sciences in order to better understand and manage the transmission of dog-associated zoonotic pathogens in Southeast Asia. The project focuses on the ecological and anthropic drivers of dog movements and contacts patterns in rural landscapes in Indonesia, Cambodia and Thailand. Data collected will use several methods drawn from ecology (GPS tracking of dogs, Camera-traps), pathogen diagnostic (serology, PCR, NGS) and social sciences (Questionnaire, Interviews), analysed to provide an interdisciplinary understanding of the drivers of dog-borne zoonotic diseases in the region.
